H.M.S. Newark was one of one hundred and fourteen Hunt Class minesweepers completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

Newark paid off at Portsmouth on 25 October, 1919.[7]

In January, 1921, she was at Southampton, one of twenty-eight paid off minesweepers there.[8]

She was reduced to reserve on 22 March, 1927.[9]

As the Central Reserve of Minesweepers at Sheerness was being merged into the general Fleet Reserve at the Nore in February 1928, it was deemed necessary to trim the fat. Newark was one of ten obsolete minesweepers ordered to be placed on the for sale list, adding to a group of nine previously set for disposal.[10]
