U.S.S. Long was one of one hundred and fifty-six Clemson Class destroyers completed for the U.S. Navy. Like Hovey, she diverged from the standard Clemson design in that she carried four twin-barrel Mark 44 4-in/50cal guns.
Service
Long commissioned on 20 October, 1919 with Commander Arthur B. Cook in command.
She was recommissioned in San Diego on 29 March, 1930 with Lieutenant Commander William J. Butler in command.
