U.S.S. Sharkey was one of one hundred and fifty-six Clemson Class destroyers completed for the U.S. Navy.
She was named for Lt. j.g. William J. Sharkey, who died in an explosion aboard submarine O-5 late in 1918.
Service
Sharkey was commissioned on 28 November, 1919 with Commander Edward D. Washburn, Jr. in command.
