H.M. T.B. 87 (1889) | |
---|---|
Builder: | Yarrow & Company[1] |
Launched: | 1889[2] |
Completed: | September 1889[3] |
Sold: | 27 March, 1920[4] |
H.M. T.B. 87 was one of six first-class torpedo boats of the T.B. 82 class.
Service
She participated in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1894 as one of three boats in Torpedo Division 2 of the Red Side.[5]
In 1895, she was one of thirteen torpedo boats of 125 feet or greater length and four smaller ones stationed in Devonport.[6]
On 27 July 1903, T.B. 87 and T.B. 80 collided. Oswald William Ormsby was faulted for a "great lack of judgement" in the affair and incurred the Admiralty's severe displeasure.[7]
In 1904, the destroyer Arun collided with T.B. 87. It was decreed that Arun's Commander Reginald Y. Tyrwhitt had misinterpreted regulations in the affair, but was not found to be to blame.[8]
In July 1914, T.B. 87 took part in the Test Mobilisation.[9]
In July, 1918, the boat and three minelayers from the Fast (15th Fleet) Sweeping Flotilla were the only defence forces in Falmouth.[10]
Sold to Stanlee of Dover on 27 March, 1920.[11]
