U.S.S. Reid was one of one hundred and fifty-six Clemson Class destroyers completed for the U.S. Navy.

Reid was assigned to Squadron 3, Atlantic Fleet after being commissioned on 3 December, 1919 under the command of Lieutenant Commander Vance D. Chapline.
