U.S.S. Paulding was one of ten Paulding class destroyers completed for the U.S. Navy in 1910-11.
Service
While serving on the Rum Patrol, Paulding rammed and sank the surfacing S-4 on 17 December 1927 off Provincetown, Massachusetts. Though some men survived the initial sinking and exchanged tapped messages with would-be rescuers from the seabed, sea conditions did not allow any successful rescue.
