Charles Vernon Lowcay Norcock
Commander (retired) Charles Vernon Lowcay Norcock, O.B.E. (10 July, 1884 – ) served in the Royal Navy. His nearest relation upon joining the Navy was Rear-Admiral (eventually, Vice-Admiral) C. J. Norcock, R.N..
Life & Career
On 14 July 1904, he grounded his T.B. 74 and also caused other T.Bs. in the division to be grounded. This appears to be the very first day he was in this, his first command appointment. He was faulted in the affair in an ensuing Court of Enquiry. Later that year or in 1905, he was cautioned to be more careful after the grounding of H.M.S. Kent off St. Mary's [illeg] in the [Firth of Forth]]. He would later elicit severe displeasure regarding his punishment of a Midshipman in the vessel.[1]
Norcock was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1906. On 10 December 1907 he was granted three months time on Half Pay to seek private treatment for a knee ailment. This issue proved the end of his initial naval career, as he never quite mended. He was placed on the Retired List as medically unfit on 10 December, 1910.[2]
Norcock was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (retired) on 1 April, 1914.[3]
Norcock was promoted to the rank of Commander on 11 November, 1918.[4]
