Commander Cyril James Herbert Hill, R.N., Retired (16 August, 1891 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hill spent much of 1913 undergoing Engine Room training in King Edward VII, and then was in the Acasta Class destroyer Contest from 1 November 1913 to 13 April, 1914.[1]

Hill was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1914 while on the books of President for a navigation course. When war broke out, he <was assigned to the Tribal Class destroyer Cossack. On 17 June, 1915 he was appointed to Lucifer of the Third Destroyer Flotilla, itself a part of the Harwich Striking Force.[2]

On 12 December 1916, Hill was appointed to the brand-new destroyer Phoebe. He remained in her from her commissioning, operating with the Tenth Destroyer Flotilla.

Hill was appointed in command of the destroyer Afridi on 26 December, 1917.[3][4]

Post-War

Hill was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 May, 1922.[5]

Hill was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 16 August, 1934.[6]

World War II

Hill worked as a Staff Officer on the Staff of the C-in-C, Nore at Area Combined Headquarters from 25 August, 1939 through the end of the war.

He reverted to the Retired List on 8 October, 1946.
