H.M.S. Medea was one of five second class protected cruisers of the Medea class completed for the Royal Navy in 1889 and 1890.
There was also a destroyer named Medea that played a more extensive role in the Great War.
Service
As preparations were underway for the Annual Manoeuvres of 1893, T.B. 64 collided at full steam with Medea as she was leaving the basin at Chatham Dockyard on 11 July. The torpedo boat's bow was smashed and she proceeded to Sheerness for repairs; the cruiser was holed.[6]
Recommissioned at Devonport on 16 May, 1911. In mid-1913, she was assigned to the Mediterranean.[7]
