Assistant Paymaster was a rank in the Accountant Branch of the Royal Navy, equivalent to that of Sub-Lieutenant. After four years in that rank, the Assistant-Paymaster was entitled to wear one and a half stripes, roughly equivalent to the rank of Lieutenant, Junior Grade in the United States Navy.
An Order in Council of 8 November, 1918, altered the title of the rank to Paymaster Sub-Lieutenant.[1]
