Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. Charles Matthew Nelson, (14 June, 1883 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.
Life & Career
Nelson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 14 January, 1915.[1]
Appointed to Valiant on 15 August, 1917, he suffered an adverse report, necessitating regular reports to be issued on him. One from 31 January 1918 indicated that he was "most satisfactory in every respect." He served in the battleship until July 1919.[2]
Nelson commanded the minesweeper Carstairs from 19 July 1919. He was to be demobilised on 2 November 1919, but this was delayed until 25 January, 1920.[3]
Nelson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 14 January, 1923. In August 1924, he was injured in a motor accident and was treated at Chatham Hospital.[4]
After a poor showing in Gunnery and Torpedo Courses in early 1925, Nelson was considered for removal from the R.N.R.. He apparently avoided this fate, and w was placed on the Retired List on 14 June, 1928.[5]
In 1948, he reported that he was retired and living in Norfolk.
