Captain THE HONOURABLE Edward Spencer Harry Boyle, (8 October, 1870 – 8 October, 1937) served in the Royal Navy. He seemed to do very poorly as a sailor, being dismissed the service early and clawing his way back in. Despite wrecking a torpedo boat, he managed to redeem himself with valorous work with landing parties in South Africa.
Life & Career
Boyle was born in London. He listed Lady Shannon of Castle Martyn, Ireland as his guardian upon joining the service.[1]
Boyle was dismissed the service on 16 December 1891 after failing for the second time to pass college.[2]
He would later serve in the Indian Marine and later become a Lieutenant on the Supplementary List on 31 October, 1895.[3]
Boyle wrecked the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 28 in July 1898, for which he was severely censured.[4]
Boyle was specially promoted to the rank of Commander for services in South Africa on 1 January, 1903.[5]
Boyle was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1910.[6]
Reverted to the Retired List on 15 December 1919.[7]
