Edward Spencer Harry Boyle

Captain THE HONOURABLE Edward Spencer Harry Boyle, (8 October, 1870 – 8 October, 1937) served in the Royal Navy. He seemed to do very poorly as a sailor, being dismissed the service early and clawing his way back in. Despite wrecking a torpedo boat, he managed to redeem himself with valorous work with landing parties in South Africa.

Life & Career

Boyle was born in London. He listed Lady Shannon of Castle Martyn, Ireland as his guardian upon joining the service.

Boyle was dismissed the service on 16 December 1891 after failing for the second time to pass college.

He would later serve in the Indian Marine and later become a Lieutenant on the Supplementary List on 31 October, 1895.

Boyle wrecked the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 28 in July 1898, for which he was severely censured.

Boyle was specially promoted to the rank of Commander for services in South Africa on 1 January, 1903.

Boyle was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1910.

Reverted to the Retired List on 15 December 1919.
