Admiral SIR Alfred Wyndham Paget, K.C.B., K.C.M.G., D.S.O., Royal Navy (20 March, 1852 – 17 June, 1918) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Paget was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 28 December, 1877.[1]
On 17 May, 1887, he was appointed in command of the Second-Class Gun-Boat Starling.[2]
He was appointed to the composite sloop Dolphin on 11 August, 1893.[3]
Paget was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1896.[4]
On 3 June, 1899, Paget was appointed a Companion in the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (C.M.G.).[5]
He took command of the battleship Royal Sovereign on 13 May, 1903.[6]
He was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King Edward VII dated 1 July, 1905, vice Callaghan.[7] For his services in connection with the settlement of French claims in Newfoundland Paget was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Second Class, or Knight Commander, in the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (K.C.M.G.) on 9 November.[8]

Paget was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 October, 1906.[9]
On the occasion of King George V's coronation he was appointed an Additional Member of the Second Class, or Knight Commander, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) on 19 June, 1911.[10]
Paget was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 March, 1911, vice Lambton.[11]
Paget was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 8 December, 1913, vice Denison.[12]
Great War
In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 14 September, 1914.[13] He was granted a temporary Commission as Commander in the Royal Naval Reserve on 18 September, 1914.[14]
He was appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) on 4 June, 1917.[15]
