H.M.S. Lychnis was one of twelve Aubrietia Class convoy sloops completed for the Royal Navy.
In September 1921, she was transferred to the Royal Indian Marine, then becoming H.M.I.S. Cornwallis.[6]
Service
On 17 June, 1918 while operating between Sardinia and Sicily under the command of Lieutenant-Commander Cyril John Laugham Noakes, Lychnis forced U 64 to the surface by depth charging her before destroying her by gunfire, leaving five survivors. Noakes was awarded a D.S.O. for the feat.[7]
Captains
- Lieutenant-Commander Cyril J. L. Noakes, October, 1917 – 1 October, 1918
- Acting Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. Alexander S. Mackay, 4 October, 1918[8]
