He was appointed to the new battleship King Edward VII on 7 February, 1905 and just nine days later was discharged to the depot by Captain Leveson who reported that Wilkinson was "unfit for position as senr. member of gunroom mess of large ship." While in Hecla in October, 1905, Wilkinson was presented with a Chinese tray with an Imperial monogram for saving life.[1]

Post-War
On 12 November, 1919, Wilkinson was appointed in command of the submarine Seawolf.[10]
After being superseded in command of the convoy sloop Chrysanthemum in August, 1926, Wilkinson took some unpaid time and then was appointed for work with the Naval Intelligence Division, vice Lovett Cameron on 15 December, 1926. He was superseded in this last appointment on 16 December, 1929.
