Captain R.N.R. (retired) Charles Leonard Dettmar, D.S.C., R.D., R.N.R. (8 March, 1885 – ) was an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve.
Life & Career
Dettmar served in the battleship Hercules from 2 December 1913 through 11 June, 1916, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 26 February, 1915 and seeing action in the ship at the Battle of Jutland. His performance there qualified him for early promotion.[1]
Dettmar was appointed in command of the patrol boat P40 on 17 August, 1917.[2] On 30 June, 1918, he would be promoted to the rank of Acting Lieutenant-Commander.
Dettmar was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 26 February, 1923.[3]
Dettmar was promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 30 June, 1926.[4]
Dettmar was promoted to the rank of Captain R.N.R. at some point.
World War II
In 1948, Dettmar reported that he was retired, and fit for shore service only, if needed.[5]
