H.M.S. Cynthia (1898)
Pendant Number: N.09 (1914)
D.39 (Sep 1915)
D.23 (Jan 1918)[1]
Builder: John I. Thornycroft & Company[2]
Ordered: 1896-97[3]
Laid down: 16 Jul, 1896[4]
Launched: 8 Jan, 1898[5]
Commissioned: Jun, 1899[6]
Broken up: 1920[7]

H.M.S. Cynthia was one of the Royal Navy's eleven "D" class destroyers.

Service

In late 1906, Proserpine collided with Cynthia and Commander Bruce was told to be more careful in future following a Court of Enquiry. It is not immediately clear how he was involved in this misadventure, as he had left command of Cynthia some years earlier.[8]

Cynthia was one of twenty-seven T.B.Ds. of the Portsmouth Flotilla to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1909.[9]

In March 1910, she was part of the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla, which was in turn part of Part of the Third Division, Home Fleet.

Throughout the Great War, she was part of the Nore Local Defence Flotilla.
