Captain Gerald Curteis, K.C.V.O. (16 October, 1892 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of R. W. Curteis, Esq., gentleman.[1]

Curteis was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1914. During the Great War, he served in the scout cruiser Blonde until 23 September, 1915, and then in Warspite from 12 October, 1915. He fought at the Battle of Jutland in this appointment, and was made assistant navigator on 28 September, 1916.[2]

On 14 March, 1917 he was appointed to the scout cruiser Boadicea as Lt. (N), serving in her until 30 August, 1917. He then served as navigator in Godetia to the end of the war.[3]

Curteis was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 June, 1922.[4]

Curteis was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1927.[5]

Curteis was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1934. [6]

He retired at his own request 26 March, 1936.[7]

World War II

On 6 October, 1939 he was appointed to Iron Duke, additional, as Chief Staff Officer to Flag Officer Commanding, Orkneys and Shetlands, vice Fellowes.[8]

On 27 January, 1941, he was appointed Director of Wreck Disposal. He was reverted to the Retired List on 15 November, 1945.[9]
