Charles Austin Browne

Captain Charles Austin Browne, R.N. (31 August, 1889 – 30 June, 1937) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born the son of a Reverend C. C. Browne in Guildford, Charles Browne entered the Royal Navy ranked 52nd in order of merit of sixty cadets accepted in the May 1904 intake term at H.M.S. Britannia.[1]

Browne was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1910.[2]

Browne was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1918.[3]

Browne was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1924.[4]

Browne was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1934. He died in mid-1937 while working up the new light cruiser Glasgow. The cause of death is not explained in his Service Record.[5]
