Captain (retired) Ivan Walter Whitehorn, R.N. (22 May, 1892 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of W. E. Whitehorn, Esq., merchant.
Whitehorn was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1915.
Whitehorn was appointed in command of the destroyer Mosquito on 23 September, 1918.[1]
Whitehorn was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 January, 1923.
Whitehorn was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1925. He was lent to the Royal Australian Navy on 6 April, 1926, his first appointment being to the light cruiser Melbourne.
In November, 1936, he was appointed in command of the monitor Terror and remained with her until October, 1938.
On 10 November, 1939, he was granted the acting rank of Captain.
Whitehorn was appointed in command of the Armed Merchant Cruiser Aurania from 12 October, 1939 to 18 March, 1942.
Whitehorn was placed on the Retired List on account of age with the rank of Captain on 22 May, 1942.
