Alan Cameron Bruce

Vice-Admiral Alan Cameron Bruce, C.B., D.S.O., Royal Navy, Retired (19 January, 1873 – 20 August, 1947) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

He was appointed to at least twenty seagoing commands.

Life & Career

Bruce was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the destroyer Banshee in Spring of 1902.

He qualified as an Interpreter in French.

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1905.

Bruce was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1913.

In December 1913, he assumed command of the depot ship St. George.

On 27 January, 1914, Bruce commissioned the scout cruiser Patrol and took command of the Ninth Destroyer Flotilla.

He also was in command of the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla at some other point.

He was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Shannon on 29 November, 1918.

Bruce was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 7 October, 1923, vice Phillpotts. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 8 October. He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 6 April, 1928.

Bruce died "peacefully" at Sunnybrae, Moffat on 20 August, 1947.
