Four Seal (or "G") class submarines were completed for the U.S. Navy between 1912 and 1915. They were the last gasoline-powered American submarines and varied considerably in their details.

In February, 1916, the G class boats were based at New London along with the G and the E class boats, tendered by Fulton and Ozark.[1]
