Captain (retired) John Martin Stokes (14 November, 1854 – 28 September, 1930) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Stokes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 8 December, 1879.[1]
On 7 December, 1880, he was appointed to the composite screw sloop Doterel and was fortunate to survive, unhurt, when she exploded on 26 April, 1881.[2]
He was appointed in command of the brig Sealark on 2 February, 1891. He was superseded on 17 May, 1894.[3]
Stokes was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1894.[4]
Stokes was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 1 June, 1903 promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 31 December, 1909.[5]
