Admiral SIR William Archibald Howard Kelly, G.B.E., K.C.B., C.M.G., M.V.O., Royal Navy (6 September, 1873 – 14 September, 1952) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

On 21 March 1914, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Gloucester.[1]

In September 1916, he took charge of the light cruiser Weymouth.[2]

Kelly was appointed in command of the light cruiser Lowestoft on 25 September, 1917 as Commodore, First Class, serving in her to war's end.[3]

Kelly supposedly said at a discussion, "I subscribe to the views of Lord St. Vincent, Lord Nelson, Lord Jellicoe, and Lord Beatty. get your bravery over young and before you command the British Fleet, which must not be deliberately exposed to the risks and chances of night action."[4]

Kelly was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Military Division of the Second Class, or Knight Commander, in the Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) on 1 January, 1931.[5]

As a Commodore, he commanded the Eighth Light Cruiser Squadron.[Citation needed] As a Rear-Admiral, he commanded the Second Cruiser Squadron.[Citation needed]
