William McClure Lunt

Commander (retired) William McClure Lunt, (7 January, 1878 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve. I need to check whether he was an Australian or a Brit.

Life & Career

Lunt was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 28 December, 1909.

On 9 August, 1914 he was appointed to the second class protected cruiser Challenger.

In mid 1915, he was commended for his command of the Nyong Flotilla.

On 21 December 1915, he was reported as slightly wounded at the Nyong River in Cameroon. He was able to continue on duty.

Lunt was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 28 December, 1917.

In 1919, the Admiralty did not agree with a suggestion to honour him for services in East Africa. On 4 July, he was to be demobilised from his date of arrival in England, his previous orders being cancelled. He was demobilised on 7 September 1919.

Lunt was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 19 September, 1921.
