The Technical History Section of the Admiralty was established on 2 December, 1918, "with the object of preserving a secret record of technical problems dealt with by Admiralty Departments during the War".[1] It's first and only head was Acting Commander Rollo Appleyard, R.N.V.R., who was demobilised in March, 1920.[2] The Section was responsible for the editing and publication of various volumes of The Technical History and Index, many of which were prepared by the relevant departments or divisions in the Admiralty. It is not to be confused with the Historical Section of the Naval Staff.
