Richard Shelley
Vice-Admiral (retired) Richard Shelley, C.B., C.B.E. (18 January, 1892 – 13 June, 1968) served in the Royal Navy.
Shelley was born the son of Sir J. Shelley, Bart.. He changed his name to Richard Benyon by Deed Poll on 8 April 1964.[1]
Life & Career
Shelley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1914. Shelley would serve in Iron Duke throughout the war, and was in charge of her Transmitting Station at the Battle of Jutland.[2]
Shelley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 August, 1922.[3]
Shelley was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1927.[4]
Shelley was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1934.[5]
Shelley was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 8 January, 1944.[6]
Shelley was placed on the Retired List with the rank of Vice-Admiral on 21 January, 1948.[7]
