Captain Richard Francis John Onslow, M.V.O., D.S.C. (29 March, 1896 – 9 April, 1942) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Reverend M. K. [illeg] Onslow.

He served in Queen Mary until 5 November, 1915, at which time he appears to have been appointed to Zulu. On 25 April, 1916 he was appointed to Thames, additional, for special service, which appears in this case to have been work with Coastal Motor Boats.[1]

Onslow was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 November, 1917.[2]

On 18 May 1918 he was appointed in command of Template:UK-CMB43[Fact Check]. On 14 octber 1918 he was appointed in command of Template:UK-CMB60. On 28 January, 1919 he was appointed to Theseus for command of C.M.Bs..

Onslow was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 November, 1925.[3]

Onslow was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1931.[4]

Onslow was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1937.[5]

World War II

Onslow was killed when the aircraft carrier H.M.S. Hermes was lost under his command.[6]
