Lieutenant R.N.R. Lionel Matthew Kelly (20 December, 1884 – ) was an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve. He apparently spoke Hindi. Oddly, there is no clear sign that he obtained certificates in gunnery or torpedoes.
Life & Career
In April through May, 1914, Kelly was in Invincible where he was found capable of reading semaphore at 10 per minute and flashing morse lamps at 8. He was next appointed to Agincourt on 8 August, 1914.[1]
Kelly was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 1 October, 1915. In mid-March 1916 he left Agincourt for H.M.S. Research.[2]
Kelly was appointed Lieutenant, R.N.R. in command of the destroyer Sylvia on 30 April, 1918.[3]
Kelly was demobilised on 30 June 1919.
