John George Heugh
Commander John George Heugh, D.S.O., R.N. (13 October, 1855 – 19 March, 1915) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Heugh was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 6 November, 1879.
Heugh was appointed in command of the composite paddle vessel Alecto on 16 February, 1894.
On 21 December, 1894 Heugh was promoted to the rank of Commander and awarded a D.S.O. for his services in action against the Nana of Brohemie, Nigeria the preceding September. He was docked six months' seniority, however, in a Court Martial on 31 December, 1896 for drinking intoxicating liquors to excess. He was also severely reprimanded and dismissed the ship, which was Galatea.
Heugh was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 21 April, 1897 and was not to receive a step in rank.
