Harry Woodfall Brent

Vice-Admiral (retired) Harry Woodfall Brent, R.N. (19 August, 1834 – 27 February, 1911) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Brent was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 5 January, 1856. That same year, he would be engaged in revising the lighting arrangements of the fleet.

He was appointed to H.M.S. Amphion on 4 December 1862. On 4 February 1862, he as made her acting Captain. On 14 March, little over a month later, he was to be superseded for lack of discipline aboard the ship. He was superseded on 30 March. The fairness of this seems a little suspect!

Brent was promoted to the rank of Commander on 5 July, 1866.

During the span 1867-1870, Brent was commander in Bellerophon. In 1874, he was engaged in revising the torpedo books of the fleet.

Brent was promoted to the rank of Captain on 27 April, 1875.

Brent was placed on the Retired List on account of age on 19 August, 1889 and promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 5 August, 1890.

Brent was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 9 November, 1896.
