Harold Holehouse
Commander R.N.R. (retired) Harold Holehouse, R.D. (5 June, 1881 – ) was an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve.
Life & Career
Holehouse was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 2 August, 1915.[1]
Awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal for lifesaving at sea in 1917.
Holehouse was relieved in command of Star on account of sickness after being admitted to Haslar Hospital on 18 October, 1917. Alan Bruce had no special remarks upon his performance, and he was restricted to shore service until being recommended for sea service on 24 April, 1918.[2]
Holehouse was appointed to the destroyer Lively on 9 May 1918,[3] taking command upon her commissioning on 15 May. He performed well in an encounter with an enemy submarine in October and demonstrated good seamanship on the occasion of the loss of S.S. Lein[illeg], saving many lives.[4]
Holehouse was demobilised on 21 January 1919, but it was post-dated to 30January. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 2 August, 1923.[5]
Holehouse was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 5 June, 1926.[6]
