H.M.S. Thames was one of three River Class submarines completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
Thames was commissioned on 19 June, 1932 for service with the First Submarine Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[1]

- Lieutenant-Commander Arthur E. F. Lovell, 8 April, 1935[4]
- Lieutenant-Commander James G. Gould, 10 November, 1936[5]
- Commander Denis V. Sprague, 27 December, 1939[6] – 4 July, 1940[7] (killed in harbour incident with Vichy submarine)
- Lieutenant-Commander William D. Dunkerley, 4 July, 1940[8] – c. late July, 1940[9] (died when submarine lost)
