Construction & Service

On 8 February, 1896, dockyard officials at Devonport reported that the new sloop was ready to be transferred to the Fleet Reserve.[6] Phoenix and her sister Algerine were slated to go to the China Station to become station gunboats.[7]

Phoenix was lost while out of commission and moored at a buoy in Hong Kong harbour when a typhoon struck. Driven onto a seawall, she fell over. She was sold for scrap on 7 January, 1907.[8]
