Commander (retired) Edward Laurence Bruce Oliphant, R.N. (18 April, 1887 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Oliphant was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1909.[1]

Following studies in Signals at H.M.S. Vernon in 1910 and 1911, he was qualified as Lieutenant (S) on 17 April, 1912.[2]

On 23 February 1915, he was appointed to H.M.S. Benbow for signal duties with Admiral Sturdee. On 4 July, he was made his Flag Lieutenant. Service in Benbow would extend into 1918 and place Oliphant in action at the Battle of Jutland.[3]

Oliphant was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1917.[4]

Oliphant was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 8 May, 1920 and was promoted to the rank of Commander on 18 April, 1927.[5]

World War II

Some service at the Portsmouth Signal School, 23 August, 1939 to 21 July, 1940.[6]
