Dudley Burton Napier North
Admiral SIR Dudley Burton Napier North, G.C.V.O., C.B., C.S.I., C.M.G. (25 November, 1881 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Early Life & Career
North was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1903.[1]
North was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1911.[2]
North was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1914.[3]
Post-War
North was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1919.[4]
North was appointed in command of the light cruiser Caledon in September, 1922.
North was appointed in command of the battleship Revenge in July, 1926.
North was appointed in command of the light cruiser Dartmouth in August, 1927.
In November, 1927, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Constance.
North was appointed in command of the battlecruiser Tiger on 11 May, 1929.
North was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 5 July, 1932.[5]
North was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 19 July, 1936.[6]
World War II
North was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 8 May, 1940.[7]
He was placed on the Retired List on 15 February, 1942. However, in 23 December of that year he was made Flag Officer in Charge of Great Yarmouth, in which capacity he worked with U.S. Army Air Force personnel in creating an air-sea rescue system and established hospital facilities for the injured. He was found unfit on 16 May, 1947 and was reverted to the Retired List on 11 July.[8]
