Douglas George Jeffrey

Commander R.N.R. (retired) Douglas George Jeffrey, M.B.E., D.S.O., R.N.R. (23 September, 1885 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve. He had also been awarded an R.D., but this was forfeited in June 1928.

Life & Career

Jeffrey was tried by a two-day Court Martial in February, 1914 and was severely reprimanded for having hazarded the armoured cruiser King Alfred in a collision with the Spanish steamer Umbre which sank the other ship.

Jeffrey was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 1 December, 1914.

In 1918, Admiral Wake called to commend Jeffrey for service in the R.N., as he had been impressed by Jeffrey when both men were in Formidable.

Jeffrey was demobilised on 12 February, 1920 and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 1 December, 1922.

Jeffrey was placed on the Retired List at the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 7 June, 1927.

World War II

In 1939, it was reported that he had been employed by Canadian Naval Authorities. He commanded three R.C.N. ships during the conflict.
