The position of Director of Naval Aviation existed in both the Royal and United States Navies.
Established in 1917, the Director of Naval Aviation was officially known as the Fifth Sea Lord, as well as by its former title of Director of Air Services. The position ceased to exist upon the formation of the Royal Air Force in 1918.
The position of Director of Naval Aviation was instituted at the U.S. entry into the Great War in 1917.
