This category contains men who studied at Esplanade House School – a private preparatory school for boys wishing to apply for entrance to the Royal Navy through competitive examination.

It was located on Green Road in Southsea and operated under principal John Smyth. Its advertisements indicated that "[p]upils receive an Education adapted to the requirements of Naval, Civil Service, and Local Examinations." Assistant Clerkships were one focus for the students, with about five boys entering each year from 1886 through 1894. As for naval cadetships, in December 1893, both of two candidates were successful, though they are not named.[1]
