Arthur Wellesley Bigsworth

Lieutenant (supplementary) Arthur Wellesley Bigsworth, C.M.G., D.S.O.*, A.F.C. (27 March, 1885 – 24 February, 1961) served in the Royal Navy, the Royal Naval Reserve and the Royal Naval Air Service.

Life & Career

Bigsworth entered the service at the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1913 and was sent to an aviation course at the Central Flying School.

Bigsworth was awarded the D.S.O. for dropping four 20-pound bombs from an Avro 504 on Zeppelin LZ39 over Ostend on the night of 17 May 1915.

He was awarded a bar to the D.S.O. for bombing a U-boat near Ostend.

Post-War

Bigsworth eventually became an Air Commodore in the R.A.F., serving until retirement in 1935.
