Arthur Alured Mellin

Commander Arthur Alured Mellin, D.S.O. (24 October, 1870 – 15 September, 1948) served in the Royal Navy and the Royal Naval Reserve. One Service Record lists 1876 as his year of birth, but it is clearly corrected.

Life & Career

Mellin was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1898.

Mellin was placed in command of special service vessel Sabrina II, later called Q 3, on 21 March 1916. In October 1916, he was thanked by the Admiralty for his work in an engagement with an enemy submarine. His D.S.O. was awarded him on the same basis.

Mellin was promoted to the rank of Commander on 12 November, 1917 in recognition of his wartime service.
