Alister William McDonald

Commander (retired) Alister William McDonald, R.N. (19 June, 1884 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Southall, the son of G. B. McDonald, Esq..

McDonald was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1906.

McDonald was placed on the Retired List on 2 January, 1912 on account of colour blindness. McDonald was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1914.

When the war broke out, McDonald was called up as an Assistant Inspector of Steel in Sheffield. He seems to have worked at this post until being made Assistant Inspector of Naval Ordnance in Woolwich on 27 January, 1922. He worked at his post until 13 February, 1926.

World War II

From 1939, a Consular Shipping Adviser at Amsterdam.

McDonald was promoted to the rank of Commander on 14 December, 1942.
