Commander (retired) Alaric William John Portal, R.N. (24 June, 1861 – 11 March, 1906) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Portal was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 21 January, 1882.

Portal took command of Lizard for passage to Australia in late 1887, but developed a nervous condition in September 1889 while serving as torpedo officer in Orlando. He was retired as unfit on 14 August, 1893.

Portal was allowed to assume the rank of Commander on 1 July, 1901.
