James Charles Wauhope

Commander James Charles Wauhope, R.N. (15 July, 1884 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Simon Potter emailed to relay a 1937 news story that reported,^[1]

Captain J. C. Wauhope, who is travelling from New Guinea to Great Britain, where he will now live. He joined the Royal Navy in 1899 and had his first command, the submarine A 5, in 1908. For a year and a half during the Great War he was in command of a Q ship, the Q4. He was lent to the Royal Australian Navy in 1923, and was commander of the cruiser Adelaide. He retired in 1924 and went to live in New Guinea, where for the past seven years he has been successfully working a claim on the Wewak goldfield.
