Service

In December 1907, she collided with a steamboat of H.M.S. Magnificent. Lowly Sub-Lieutenant Percy Ralph Passawer Percival of Roxburgh was blamed in the incident, which is somewhat unusual. That same month, command of the ship was being turned over from Captain The Hon. Somerset A. Gough-Calthorpe to Morgan Singer, but the incident is not mentioned in either man's Service Record.[9]

As part of the Channel Fleet, Roxburgh was to start refitting in Devonport in September 1908, after Hampshire rejoined the Fleet.[10]

In early August 1909 while the cruiser was in Plymouth Sound, £500 of public money was found to be missing from the ship. A forensic inquiry into her books was so extensive that she was unable to sail for Bantry on 8 August as ordered. It was believed that a large quantity of gold had been removed from her safe quite recently.[11] This was similar to a larger theft that had occurred in the Indomitable in May 1909.[12]

Roxburgh was completed to full crew at Devonport on 12 February, 1913 for service in the Third Cruiser Squadron.[13]

In mid-1913, it was decided to purchase a Type 9 Cruiser Auxiliary set for her.[14]

On 21 June, 1915, Roxburgh was torpedoed off May Island by U 38. Botha, Fearless and destroyers of the First Destroyer Flotilla escorted her back into Rosyth under her own power.[15]
