Ulysses S. Grant, (April 27, 1822 – July 23, 1885) was the 18th President of the United States, serving from 1869 to 1877. He had previously served under President Abraham Lincoln as Commanding General of the United States Army from 1864 to 1869, leading the Union armies to victory in the American Civil War.
