Life & Career

Philpott was promoted to the probationary rank of Lieutenant (supplementary list) on 1 October, 1898[1] and confirmed in the rank on 30 January, 1899.

Philpott was at times handed around like a hot potato.

He was appointed to Tyne for navigating duties in late August, 1901.[2]

Philpott was appointed to the second class protected cruiser Marathon for navigating duties dated 7 September, 1904[3] and then to destroyer Albacore for navigating duties dated 30 September, 1904.[4]

Philpott was appointed to the second class protected cruiser Medea for navigating duties dated 22 November, 1904.[5] This proved quite brief, as he was appointed to the second class protected cruiser Marathon for navigating duties dated 10 December, 1904.[6]

Philpott was appointed to the second class protected cruiser Indefatigable on 3 January, 1905.[7]

Philpott was retired with a step in rank to Commander on 28 January, 1914.[8]
