Captain (retired) Claud Boothby Graham-Watson, D.S.O. (12 February, 1894 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of James Graham Watson, Esq., a manager with Scottish Provident Institute, an insurer, Claud altered his last name to have a hyphen at some point.

Graham-Watson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 September, 1915 and obtained a prize for obtaining five first-class certificates. He would be appointed to the battlecruiser Lion on 9 October, and served in her at the Battle of Jutland. On 12 February, 1917 he was sent to Portsmouth Signal School to qualify in signalling.[1]

On 16 November 1917 he was appointed to Caledon for Signal and W/T duties in the First Light Cruiser Squadron. On 20 September 1918, he became flag Lieutenant to R/A Commanding the formation. R/A Cowan noted that Graham-Watson was a "[p]articularly well trained Fleet Signal Officer" possessing "very good endurance."[2]

Graham-Watson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 September, 1923.[3]

Graham-Watson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1929.[4]

Graham-Watson was placed on the Retired List at his own request upon his relief on 21 August, 1934.[5]

Graham-Watson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 12 February, 1939.[6]
