Commander William Melvin Carey, R.N., Retired (4 July, 1887 – 2 May, 1933) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Barnet, the son of H. S. Carey, Esq., Carey gained two and a half months' time on passing out of Britannia on 15 May, 1903.

Carey was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1909.

Carey was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1917.

Post-War

On 30 December, 1923 Carey was appointed to Harebell for the fishery protection vessel Colne, to assume command upon her re-commissioning. He was superseded on 1 December, 1925.

On 15 December 1925, he was loaned to the Royal Australian Navy for two years. He commanded H.M.A.S. Marguerite during part of his time there.

Carey was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 27 September, 1927.
